Irene Agnes (Avey) Lowden Granger, 80, died Oct. 10, 2010, in Weaverville.

The daughter of Roy A. and Agnes M. Avey, Irene was born Nov. 1, 1929, in Renton, Wash. The family moved to Redding in 1939 so her father could work on the building of Shasta Dam. She graduated from Shasta High School in 1947. She married Harley E. Lowden in Redding in 1948. They moved to Weaverville in 1967 where she lived until her death.
Harley Lowden died in 1977. Irene married James W. Granger in 1984. He died in 2007.
Mrs. Granger worked as a receptionist in Redding for many years prior to her move to Weaverville. In Weaverville she worked for husband Harley's land surveying office and two other land surveying firms, then with Barbara Brooker, she founded Trinity Travel which she owned and operated for nearly 20 years when she sold the business and moved on to enjoy her retirement.
Mrs. Granger loved to travel and did so to many exciting and exotic places through the years with friends and family. She was a 50-year member of Redding Chapter #44 Order of the Eastern Star where she was a past matron and past deputy grand matron. She was a member of the Weaverville Church of the Nazarene where she attended weekly Bible study and grew in her love of the Lord.
She was a lifetime baseball fan, especially of the Giants; loved to knit; loved the girls of the class of '47; but most of all enjoyed her grandchildren, her greatgrandchildren and getting her family together, wherever that might be and for whatever the occasion.
Mrs. Granger is survived by her children Greg Lowden of Weaverville, Margie George (Walt) of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Bob Lowden (Laura) of Redding; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren from her marriage to Harley Lowden. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harley Lowden; husband Jim Granger; ; and beloved brother Donald Avey.
Family graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 15, at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo and a memorial service was held Oct. 16 at the Weaverville Church of the Nazarene. Donations may be made to the Shasta Lake Heritage and Historical Society in Shasta Lake City, the senior center in Weaverville or to a charity of choice.[posted 12.23.2014]
