He was born May 20, 1928, in Yakima, Wash. He lived in El Dorado, Calif., and was an educator for El Dorado High School, where he worked for 22 years. He moved to Weaverville where he lived for 25 years.
He is an alumnus of Shasta High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1954. He was the last "one room" school teacher in Stringtown (now under Trinity Lake). He was a member of the Western Star Lodge #2 F&AM in Shasta, a member of Welcome-Redding Chapter #17 OES, and a member of E Clampus Vitus Trinitarianus Chapter #62 in Weaverville.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, of Weaverville; son, James of Placerville; daughter, Rochelle of Placerville; stepsons, Greg Lowden and Robert Lowden and wife Laura, of Weaverville; stepdaughter, Margie George and husband Walter of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandson, Michael and wife Sierra of Placerville; granddaughters, Jennifer Shuffleton of Redding and Erin Jespersen and husband Mark of Torrington, Wyo.; grandsons, Adam George and wife Rachel of Rawlins, Wyo., Zachary Wright of Arcata, Scott Walshaw of Placerville and Dane Hagen of Weaverville; and granddaughter, Katherine Lowden of Weaverville. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Charmane, and his sister Mary Lou Larsson.
Funeral services were held March 15. Burial was at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hayfork Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 1541, Hayfork CA 96041.
