Zola was born on January 4, 1909 in Wyoming. She died at age 10 years, 3 months & 26 days (a school girl) on April 30, 1919 at her home in Kansas City, MO of Diptheria and Measles. An epidemic of Diptheria had spread through the area during that spring of 1919 and many died. Her only sibling, sister Elma, was more fortunate, lived to adulthood, married and eventually settled in Oregon near their parents.

Zola's small obit appeared in The Kansas City Times on Saturday, May 3, 1919. It reads as follows: RAKESTRAW - Zola Rakestraw, 10 years old, died Wednesday night at her home, 2624 Troost Avenue. Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Rakestraw and a sister. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock tomorrow afteroon at Freeman & Marshall's chapel. Burial will be a Forest Hill Cemetery.
Zola's grandfather, Abram Reger Simon, was a brother to my great grandfather, Jacob Simon.
