John went from Tennessee to Alabama around 1818 with his father, Hugh; and brothers, Hugh and David. He married Scithy Letha Clark in Lawrence County Alabama, 12-3-1818. Descendant, Nadine Shelton stated in 1973 that there were 14 children born to John and Scithy - she could remember the names of 10. John came to Texas around 1853 after death of Scithy. Wood County Historian, Bill Jones, stated in an article (dated 1-7-1998) that John, along with 10 children, moved to East Texas in 1853 from Lawrence County, Alabama.


From the Moulton, Alabama newspaper - "Died in Winsboro, TX on the 15th day of January in the 87th year of his age, Mr. John McBride, formerly of Alabama. Mr McBride came to Lawrence County in 1818 and remained here until 1853. He was Circuit Clerk of Lawrence County for the years 1841-1844. He leaves 11 children, 2 of whom now live in the county, to wit - John K and Pleasant McBride."

WILLIAM C. McBRIDE, born abt. 1822-1823, Alabama.

Contributor of this page believes this is a son of John and Scithy. Tax and probate records of Lawrence County, Alabama list a William C. McBride in Lawrence Co. as late as Jan. 1849. William and wife Francis (Earp) were enumerated in the 1850 (taken in Nov.)Rusk County, Texas Census, living next to James Monroe McBride (linked below). Both William and James list their occupation as sadlers. He is enumerated in 1860 Upshur County, Texas census, listed as a sadler. Listed in 1870 Grayson, County, Texas as a farmer. In 1880 Tarrant County Census, Francis is living with extended family with one child, John (age 11) and says she is married, but there is no record of William in 1880 census records. Records of the Earp Family indicate that Frances died in 1891 in Wise County and William died sometime before that in Wise County. Location of burial is unknown.


BENJAMIN N. McBRIDE, born 1825-1826, Lawrence County, Alabama. Benjamin married Mary Elizabeth Payne in Hopkins County, Texas in May, 1858. Mary Payne, born Dec., 1836 in Tennessee, was the daughter of William and Rhoda Payne. Benjamin and Mary were enumerated in Hopkins Co. (1860), Wood Co. (1870). Benjamin died 4-6-1880 in Texas and Mary died 11-9-1925 and is buried in Harmony Cemetery, Hopkins County, Texas. Benjamin served in the Confederacy in Co. A, 2 Reg't Texas Partisan Rangers(Stone's Regiment). His rank was Second Lieutenant. Voter Registration list of Titus County, 1867 states that Benjamin had been in Texas for 20 years.


PLEASANT CLARK McBRIDE - born April,1832, Lawrence County, Alabama. He married Sarah E. Foote, 8-23-1860 in Lawrence County. In May, 1862, Pleasant enlisted in Company C, 5th Regiment, Alabama Cavalry. His rank was Sgt. Children of Pleasant and Sarah - William Lee, born abt. 1865; John Thomas, born 1-7-1868, Alabama and died 11-9-1931, Falls County, Texas(Death Certificate lists above parents)and daughter, Everlearner, born abt. 1872. Pleasant was enumerated in the 1900 census in Lawrence County, listed as a widower. Everlearner and son were living in the household. Burial location unknown.


PARILEE McBRIDE WALLACE - born March,1834, Lawrence County. Married David M. Wallace in 1857, possibly in Upshur County, Texas. Enumerated in the following censuses: 1860-Upshur Co; 1870-Wood Co; 1880-Upshur Co; 1900-Wood Co. Parilee died 1906-1909 per information on David Wallace's Confederate Pension Applications. In 1910 census, David M Wallace listed as a widower, living in Wood County with son, Benjamin F. Wallace. Texas death certificate #30392 for son B.F. Wallace states his parents were D.M. Wallace and Parilee McBride.
