Malinda listed in 1850 census with John McBride, Lawrence County, Alabama. Listed in 1860 census in Wood County, Texas, married to Henry Hester along with children, Laura, Stephen, and Mary. Malinda was second wife of Henry Hester (first wife was Melissa Clayton) and Laura and Stephen were stepchildren. She is living next to John McBride in 1870 Wood County census, listed as a widow with Stephen and Elizabeth in household. She is listed in 1880 Wood County census as a widow with "stepson" Stephen, living in household.
Per probate records of Wood County, she died in May, 1887 without a will. Her brother, James M. McBride was named executor of her estate.
Her only child, Mary Elizabeth Hester died in 1878 and is buried in City Cemetery, Winnsboro between James M. McBride and John McBride (grandfather).

Her husband, Henry W. Hester was born in South Carolina around 1821 and first married Melissa Clayton. He served in the Texas 17th Cavalry, Company G during the Civil War.
Some accounts state that he died during the Civil War. Burial unknown. Texas death certificate #39163 for Laura Hester Wallace states that she was born in Wood County, Texas and her parents were Henry Hester, South Carolina and Melanie or Melissa Clayton (hard to read writing) of South Carolina.
