Hanna Herald December 3, 1925:
Young Farmer Loses Life When Hauling Coal -
Otto Becker, Well Known Farmer Succumbs to Injuries on Trail.

An accident which proved fatal on Thursday afternoon, November 26, 1925 near the Red Rose School, when Otto Becker returning to his home with a heavy load of coal. Being a very cold day Mr. Becker was walking behind the load to keep warm and as the horses came to a slight grade in the road they began to trot, and as they did so Mr. Becker tried to jump on top of the load and get possession of the reins. In this attempt the unfortunate man failed and he fell to the ground, the wagon wheel passing over his body.
It is thought he must have remained on the road unable to move for a couple of hours before he was picked up by Andrew Portfors who was on his way to town.
He was taken to the Hanna Hospital by Andrew and Fred Portfors about seven o'clock in the evening, still conscious, but found to be critically injured. He remained conscious the remainder of the night but passed away about ten o'clock the next morning, death being due to exposure as well as injuries he received as it was as exceptionally cold night the accident occurred. The deceased young man was well known in the Hanna district and his death comes as a severe shock to this community.
Mr Becker was born in Stillman, North Dakota and during the war served overseas with the US Army. Besides his sorrowing wife and two small children left to morn his loss, he is survived by one brother, Herman Becker of the Hands Hills district and one brother, William Becker, of Butte, Montana. The funeral service was conducted on Monday afternoon from the United Church by Rev John Pate, a large congregation being in attendance. Interment took place at the Hanna Cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sincere sympathy of this community in the loss which they have sustained.
