Samuel I. Church died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday [June 21, 1962] after suffering a heart attack at his home, 2104 Appleton Lane. He was 73. The funeral will be at the W.G. Hardy Shively Chapel, 4101 Dixie Highway, at 2 p.m. Saturday. Before his retirement in 1955, Church had worked as a welder at the Henry Vogt Machine Company for 42 years. He was a native of Glasgow, KY, and a member of the 18th Street Baptist Church and the Honest Abe Council of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. Surviving him are his wife, the former Bessie Melvin; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Williams and Mrs. Howard Clark; three sons, John S., William Earl, and Marvin I. Church; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Parker, Mrs. Emma Stewart, Mrs. Callie Riley, all of Glasgow, and Mrs. Mayme Folks, Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is buried in Louisville Memorial Gardens in Shively, KY.
