RICHARD ASHBY
---Richard Ashby, fifty-nine years old, died at a hospital in St. Joseph Saturday at noon after a long illness although only being seriously ill a short time with bronchial pneumonia which was the cause of his death. The body was brought here Saturday evening to the Christie Funeral Home where funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2:00 by Rev. Fred L. Hudson, pastor of the Community Presbyterian Church. Burial was made in the La Plata cemetery.
---Richard Chauncey Ashby, son of John Forgmen and Mary Frances Ashby, was born March 1, 1878 at LaFayette, Tippacanoe County, Indiana, died September 25, 1937.
---He was married to Louise Alice Hutchins December 22, 1909. Three children were born, Richard Neely of Seattle, Washington, Laura Maxine and Raymond Leon of the home. He leaves four brothers and two sisters, Willard J. of Stockland, Illinois, John J. of Assinibola, Canada, Harry W. and Leslie K. of La Plata, Mrs. Nellie N. Baker of Thornton, Iowa and Mrs. Jessie N. Kennedy of Brookfield, Missouri, besides many other relatives and friends. His father preceded him in death May 23, 1922 and his mother October 3, 1930.
---In 1909 he was converted and united with the La Plata Baptist Church. Later he transferred his membership to the Wilsontown Baptist Church of which he was a member at the time of his death. He was also a member of the W. W. A. with membership in the La Plata lodge.
---Pallbearers were Aloes Mairens, Paul M. Wigus, Wayne Tuggle, W.W. Elgin, Eddie Gupton and Tye Collins.
