---Miss Laura Maxine Ashby, 52, of Brookfield and former resident of La Plata, died in a Kirksville hospital about 10 a.m. on Wednesday, following a lingering illness.
---Miss Ashby was born July 1, 1913, in La Plata, the daughter of Richard and Laura (Hutchens) Ashby. A graduate of La Plata High School, Miss Ashby attended Chillicothe Business College. She was a member of the La Plata Baptist Church.
---Surviving are her mother, who resides in Brookfield, and two brothers, Neal Ashby of Olympia, Washington and Raymond Ashby of Alachus, Florida.
---Funeral services were held at the Wilson Funeral Home at 2:00 Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Austin Russmiller of Troy. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery.
---Bearers were Irvin Keller, Eddie Gupton, William Yardler, Arthur Green, Jr., Kenneth McCarty and Merle Easley.
