Thomas Carl Maxwell was born in Phelps County, Mo., on March 11, 1879 and passed away at his home on Route 2, Rolla, Saturday afternoon, November 30, 1946 at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 19 days.

He is survived by five sons, Guy, Carl, Andrew and Louis all of Rolla, and Melvin of St. Louis; three daughters, Miss Nancy Maxwell, Mrs. Josephine Wynn and Miss Sarah Jane Maxwell all of Rolla. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; four brothers, Hop, Ralph, Johnnie and H. Maxwell, all of Rolla; four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Wynn, Mrs. Nancy Spencer, Mrs. Cora Spencer, all of Rolla, and Mrs. Minnie (Mittie) Prewett of Edgar Springs, besides a number of other relatives and many friends. His wife, Martha, preceeded him in death on Jan. 24, 1943, a son, Pfc. J. Anderson Maxwell of the U.S. Army lost his life in California in August 11, 1943, and another son, Cpl. Ernest Maxwell also of the U.S. Army was killed in action in Germany in Feb. 7, 1945.

Mr. Maxwell spent his entire life in Phelps County where he and his family are widely known and highly respected. Mr. Maxwell was a quiet man, bearing his many sorrows in a brave manner - he was not one to make loud complaint, but suffered his many heartaches in the past several months in his own quiet way.

Funeral services were conducted from the Wynn Cemetery Monday afternoon by Rev. Charles Spencer. Pallbearers were the five sons and a grandson, Carlie Davis. Music was furnished by a community choir. The floral offering was very large and beautiful, giving silent testimony to the high esteem held for this good man and his family of children. Burial was made in the family lot in the Wynn Cemetery under the direction of Null & Son Funeral Home.
