Elizabeth (Sowerwine) Foland
The subject of this sketch was born in Rockingham County, Virginia, November 23, 1822 and died at her home northeast of Grand River, August 25, 1896, aged 72 years, 9 months and 2 days.
She moved with her parents to Indiana in 1836. On October 16, 1842, she was united in marriage to Michael Foland. They moved to Decatur County, Iowa in 1859 where they resided until her death.
To this union was given ten children, seven sons and three daughters – all of whom were present at her funeral. The deceased was the grandmother of forty-five grandchildren, thirty-seven of whom survive her, and of seventeen great-grandchildren, all of whom are living today.
She was brought up by Presbyterian parents and was baptized into that faith when an infant and has lived an earnest and devoted Christian life. She was a faithful wife and loving mother.
The funeral service was conducted by the writer from the text of Rev. 21:4 in the presence of a large congregation, in the Camden Baptist Church, after which her remains were laid to rest to await the coming of the Lord.
