RUTH GILREATH WAS THE SIBLING OF EVERETTE G, LEONARD, WILLIAM HOLLY, EMILY, MARGIE, C PAUL, ROBERT ANDERSON, MARTHA JANE, BUNA VISTA AND MARGARET LENORE GILREATH.
SURGOINSVILLE – Ruth Gilreath Armstrong, 95 of Surgoinsville, got to go home to be with Jesus on her birthday, April 16, 2010 at home with her family and friends. Born in Blackwater, VA she had been a resident of Hawkins County for most of her life. Ruth was a charter member of Oak Dale Baptist Church, where she attended for as long as she was able. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Armstrong; her parents, Lloyd and Virgie Carter Gilreath; step-daughter, V. Jeanne Smith; four sisters, Emily Blair, Margie Rutledge, Martha Jane Crawford and Margaret Wallen; four brothers, Everett, Holly, Paul and Bob Gilreath.
Ruth is survived by her son, Ralph Armstrong of Surgoinsville; daughters, Ellen Wolfe and husband Cecil Wolfe, Jr. of Hiltons, VA, Mary Jane Pruitt and husband Robert of Surgoinsville; grandchildren, Ricky Smith and wife Tracy of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Luanne Taylor and husband Lee, II of Moore, SC, Jill Armstrong of Valprasio, Ind, Beth Richter and husband Matt of Beaufort, SC, Andi Crawley and husband Chris of Surgoinsville and Mark Pruitt and wife Chenoa of Church Hill; great-grandchildren, Haven, Aliyah and Drew Crawley, Jeremy Burkhart, Jaxon Richter, Rome Pruitt, Walker and Cameron Smith, Lee Taylor, III, Julie Taylor and Kathyrn Means; great-great grandchildren, Cade and Charlie Taylor; sister-in-law, Amy Armstrong Moyer of Knoxville; son-in-law, Bill Smith of Willow Springs, NC; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy 11W, Church Hill, TN. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Dennis Price and Pastor Freddie Freeman officiating. Music will be provided by Rebecca and Rick Griggs.
Burial will follow in New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Virgil Mauk, J. E. Mauk, Tim Barton, Phillip Barton Tommy Gilreath, Robert Pruitt and Henry Derrick.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Yvonne Eidson who helped care for Mother, to Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice.
