Former Resident Succumbs At 84
Sarah Gunter Toney, 84, of Meadville, Pa., and formerly of Mount Tabor, died in a Meadville hospital Friday of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 23, 1891, at Lester, a daughter of the late John and Ruhama Deweese Gunter. She was a manager of the Toney Coal Co. in Beckley a number of years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lacy Toney.
Mrs. Toney was a member of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church where she was president of the Missionary Society and was a Sunday School teacher. She was also affiliated with the Riverside Baptist Church in Miami, Fla., and the Calvary Baptist Church in Meadville, Pa.
Survivors include three sons, Sheldon L. of Miami, Fla., S. Gunter of Tallahassee, Fla., and Woodrow W. of Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Irene Patton of Meadville, Pa.; a brother, O. J. Gunter of Harper Heights; one sister, Elvira Davis of Mount Tabor; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Mount Tabor Baptist Church by Rev. Lee W. Fullmer. Burial will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mount Tabor Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be James, Robert, David, and Robert Lacy Toney, and George and Charles Davis.
