               Robert L. Toney, Dies In
                     His Mine At Artie


Robert Lacy Toney, 54, of Harper Road, died yesterday morning at 9:30 in the Toney Coal Company mine at Artie. His death was attributed to a heart condition.

Born in Kanawha county on May 29, 1892, he was the son of the late Linus and Alice Gunter Toney. He was married to Sarah Gunter on July 15, 1914.

Toney has lived in Raleigh and Wyoming counties throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by the following: one daughter, Mrs. Irene Patton, of East Rainelle; four sons, Sheldon, of Portsmouth, Va., Robert, of East Rainelle, Shirley, U.S. Navy, Jacksonville, Fla., and Woodrow, of Mt. Tabor; six sisters, Mrs. Lessie Vass, of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Beatrice Licklighter, of Beckley, Miss Sylvia Toney, of Huntington, and Mrs. Bessie Tolbert, of Crab Orchard; four brothers, Dewey, Herbert and Everet, all of Prosperity, and Fred, of Mt. Hope; and six grandchildren.

The body will be removed to the home on Harper Road at 4 p.m. today and will remain there until the funeral hour.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Thursday, January 9, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ben Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
