Randal Hughes was a farmer in West Windsor Township, Mercer, New Jersey in 1850. He was married to Julia Ann Vanest on December 1 1821. They had twelve children.

Randal served as a Town Committeeman in 1854.

On December 12, 1871 a party was held for the 50th wedding anniversary for Randal and Julia at their home in Hamilton Square.seven children and eight grandchildren were present. Some had to travel a distance in order to be there. Rev. Robert T. Manning their pastor was there to give them a blessing. I

Randal, died at the age of 74 near Hamilton Square on Tuesday, April 28, 1874. Service was held at the Presbyterian Church in Hamilton.
