Mildred C. Gronenthal, 89, of Newman Grove, formerly of Lindsay, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Mid Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay, with Father James F. Novotny officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery in Lindsay.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. rosary, continuing on Thursday, one hour prior to Mass, all at Holy Family Church.

Mildred was born July 5, 1921, in Cornlea to Nellie C. (Bender) and Matthew J. Schumacher. She attended Sacred Heart School in Cornlea. She married Clement J. Gronenthal on Feb., 26, 1946, in Cornlea.

She lived in the communities of Cornlea and Lindsay and lived from 1989-2006 in Columbus. She moved to Mid Nebraska Lutheran Home in 2006.

She farmed with her husband and was a homemaker. Mildred was a teachers aid at Lindsay Holy Family School, and she was employed at Lindsay Manufacturing Co. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, her grandchildren, family gatherings and country and polka music. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Steve) Adams, of Plano, TX; sons Dean (Janine) Gronenthal, of Lindsay and Don (Cathy) Gronenthal, of Lincoln; son-in-law, Ken Morten, of Randolph; sisters, Arlene Schumacher, Marlyn Schumacher and Joan Noonan, all of Columbus; brother, Dale (Nell) Schumacher, of Humphrey; sisters-in-law, Alice Schumacher, of Lincoln, Ruth Schumacher, of Lindsay, Rita Schumacher, of Columbus, Elvina Schumacher, of Omaha and Mary Schumacher, of Lindsay.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clement; daughter Gail Morten; granddaughter, Kristi Morten; five brothers, Sylvester, Harold, Gerald, Maynard, Alvin; brother-in-law, Mark Noonan.

Memorials preferred to family choice.
