"A. D. Wilcox, one of the old settlers of the Black River Valley died last Monday morning in this town, after a short illness of only a few days, with severe spasms, to which he had been subject for several years, aged 52 years. The deceased was born in Canada and came to Black River Falls in 1847, where he resided two years, and then went to Missouri, where he resided twelve years, and then returned here, where he remained until his death. His funeral was held at the residence, a mile east of this village last Tuesday, Rev. L. G. Catchpole officiating. He leaves a wife and seven children."

David Alfred Wilcox was the third son born to Silas Wilcox and Margaret Belinda Allen. He was born in Mountain, Dundas, Ontario, Canada, as was his sister Pheobe. He married Hulda Emeline Jones on 15 July 1853 in St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri. They also lived in Illinois, where several of their children were born. Besides the 7 surviving daughters David and Hulda had 2 sons who died as children.
