Obituary of Silas A. Wilcox
"Banner State Journal" newspaper: "Silas A. Wilcox died at his home in Neillsville Tuesday evening, of lung trouble. Funeral services will be held in Neillsville tomorrow morning and the remains will be brought here on the 12:50 train for interment in the city cemetery. The GAR Post and many friends of the deceased will meet the remains at the depot and short services will be held at the grave. Mr. Wilcox came here at a very early day, probably somewhere from1842 to 1844, and figured conspicuously in the early history of Black River. He was prominent in lumbering operations and was many years in business in this city. He was also a lieutenant in the last war. We will probably be enabled to speak more fully of his life in the next issue."
