Marion Epley, Jr., married Dorris Glenn Ervin (1910-2007) on Feb. 12, 1934, in Webster Groves, MO. Two children: Marion J. Epley III and Sara Epley Davis (1939-2007).

Marion J. Epley, Jr., retired chairman of Texaco, Inc., died on Feb. 15, 1997, at Harbour's Edge in Delray Beach, FL. He was 89 years old and previously lived in Palm Beach, FL.

Mr. Epley practiced law in New Orleans, LA, from 1930 to 1947, when he joined Texaco there. In 1952 he moved to New York, serving as president of the company from 1964 to 1970 and as chairman until his retirement in 1971.

Following his retirement, Mr. Epley moved to Palm Beach, where he served as president of the Good Samaritan Hospital for several years and was a governor of the Everglades Club of Palm Beach. He was also a member of the Bath and Tennis Club in Palm Beach and the Boston Club in New Orleans.

Mr. Epley was born in Hattiesburg, MS, and earned undergraduate and law degrees from Tulane University in New Orleans. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945.

Mr. Epley is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Dorris Ervin of Delray Beach, FL; a son, Marion J. Epley III of Millbrook, NY; a daughter, Sara Epley Davis of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service and interment for Mr. Epley will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Rd., Boca Raton, FL 33486. Quattlebaum-Holleman-Burse Funeral Home, 1201 S. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach, FL.
