An Unfortunate Killing.

One of the saddest affairs that has occurred in Chambers County in years was the killing of Mr. Toker Boazman by Mr. Walter Finney at Chapel Hill on last Thursday night. From all can be learned it seems that an entertainment was in progress at the school house at Chapel Hill, to which a large number of people from the neighborhoods around had come. Among the number were several young men from Marcoot. At some time during the evening, Mr. Walter Finney was drawn into a difficulty by some of the older boys - the exact nature of which we have not learned - there being conflicting statements, but hot words ensued and after Mr. Finney left, having with him his sisters and another young lady, Mr. Toker Boazman followed the party and proposed to take up the difficulty, whereupon some one handed Mr. Finney a pistol and in an engagement of hot words Mr. Finney fired, inflicting a wound in the stomach of Mr. Boazman, from the effects of which he died on Friday afternoon. From all we can learn the beginning was a frivolous affair, but it was urged on till a finale was reached which sent the soul of one young man into eternity and made the lives of many dark. The killing is to be regretted and to all who are in any way saddened by participation in the affair, "The Sun" extends sympathy.
The young man killed was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Boazman, while the young man who fired the fatal shot is the son of Mr. Charley Finney. Both young men were about 21 years of age. There seems to have been no trouble before this.
==========
"The Roanoke Leader" - May 2, 1900:

The first trial to be held in Chambers County new court house occurred Monday before Judge Driver. It was the preliminary for Walter Finney for killing Toker Boazman at Chapel Hill recently. Finney was released. Both were prominent men. Boazman, the aggressor, was drinking.
