God in his infinite wisdom saw fit to call from our midst his good and faithful Steward, Melvin Coleman Alcorn, 67, of Danville, Kentucky. Melvin was born in Lincoln County, September 19, 1939, the third of six children to the late Vernon and Mattie Pearl Carson-Alcorn. He gave his life to God at an early age at St James AME church in Danville.

A 1958 graduate of Bate High School, during his early years Melvin worked and retired from Genesco after 28 years. He also served faithfully as a Trustee at St James and he was a faithful charter member of the Bate School Alumni Association until his health failed.

An avid fisherman and country cook, Melvin was almost as fond of exploring new fishing holes as preserving food using old fashioned methods and recipes.

Merlvin leaves to mourn Margaret, a loving and loyal wife of forty-five years. Also left to cherish his memory are five devoted sons, Kelvin, Eric (Jodi), Jeffery and Brad, all of Danville and Steve (Jennifer) of Tucson, AZ; and a faithfuldaughter, Jennifer (Barry) of Witcha Falls, TX. He is also survived by brothers: Raymond of Warrensville Heights, OH; H. Kenneth Alcorn of Dayton, OH; and Charles of Danville; along with sister Helen of Atlanta, GA, an Aunt Flora Carson-White of Stanford and a Sister-in-Law, Tillie Stallworth of Danville. Brother Carl of Grove City,OH preceded Melvin in death (May 2006). Melvin was also blessed with and leaves behind 15 grandchildren, and a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
