H.F. Ackerson

Funeral services for H.F. Ackerson, well known resident of Marion Center, who killed himself with a charge from a gun Saturday morning, were conducted at his late residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock. The body was later taken to Clymer for interment. He leaves his widow and four children; his mother, a resident of this place, and a brother, Dr. L.E. Ackerson, of Clymer.

The deceased who was about 50 years old had been despondent and in ill health for some months past, following an accident in the mines, which had made him helpless and it is believed that brooding over this condition made him irresponsible, resulting in the rash act which caused his death. Mr. Ackerson was born and reared near Clymer, but had resided in Marion Center for a number of years.

Some two months ago, besides being a farmer of good financial standing, he was employed in a mine near Marion Center and in the accident which crippled him resulted in the fracture of several ribs and a head injury. He was a former employe of the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway Company and was held in high affection and esteem by a wide circle of friends and associates.

TRAGIC DEATH SHOCKS COMMUNITY

WORRY OVER ILL HEALTH WAS CAUSE OF SUICIDE

Brooding Over Condition Prominent Marion Center Resident Fired Bullet in Brain in Bedroom of Home.

Despondency resulting from brooding over ill health is thought to have been responsible for the tragic death of H.F. Ackerson, a well known resident of Marion Center, who ended his life on Friday night about 9:00 o'clock by shooting himself while in his bedroom. Two months ago while employed in a coal mine near Marion Center he met with an accident, resulting in the fracture of several ribs and an injury to his head. He never fully recovered from the accident and this fact caused him to worry to the extent that his mind became unbalanced and while in this condition he took his own life. The deceased, who was aged 50 years, was born and reared near Clymer in Cherryhill township and was a member of one of the prominent families of that section. He was engaged in farming the greater part of his life and had been a resident of Marion Center for a number of years. He is survived by his wife and four children; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Ackerson, of town, and a brother, Dr. L.E. Ackerson, of Clymer. Interment was made in the Sample Run cemetery on Sunday.
