COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Dorothy Dowell, 82, of Cookeville, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 7, from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of services today, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dowell died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Putnam County to the late John Estes and Pearl Stewart Bandy.
Mrs. Dowell was retired from General Telephone Company. She was a member of Willow Avenue Church of Christ.
Her family includes her husband of more than 60 years, Edward Dowell, (whom she married Sept. 25, 1947 in Cookeville); a daughter and soninlaw, Teresa and Johnny Goodwin of Cookeville; a son, Mark Dowell of Nashville; a sister, Elsie Thrasher of Cookeville; five grandchildren; Candice Waites and husband Scott, Cayce McCarver and Husband Michael, all of Cookeville, Anthony Dowell of Atlanta, Ga., David Dowell and wife Erica of Lebanon, and Dustin Dowell of Nashville; four greatgrandchildren,
Ethan and Dagan Waites, Carson Weber and Keaton McCarver; and a nephew, Chuck Lemons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellie and Nell Lemons; and a nephew, Phillips Lemons.
