RUIDOSO -- Charles Elwood Bannister, 89, of Richard Street in Carlsbad, died Tuesday, Sept 12, 1995, at Ruidoso Care Center. Services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Bacon officiating. Burial will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.
Arrangements are being made by West Funeral Home Inc.
Mr. Bannister was born July 24, 1906, in Mangum, Okla., to Lawrence and Henrietta Bannister, He was raised and educated in that city, as well, and married Auda Richardson there March 6, 1937. They made Carlsbad their home that same year and Mr. Bannister was employed with the Potash Company of American until his retirement in 1971.
His wife preceded him in death Oct. 8, 1986. Mr. Bannister had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1937.
He is survived by son, Charles M. Bannister Jr. of Albuquerque; daughter, Nita Swartz of Las Cruces; brothers, John D. Bannister of Artesia, Arch Bannister of Carlsbad, and Bryan Bannister of Roswell; sisters, Millie Bannister of Carlsbad and Junelle Bean of Delano, Calf.; two grandchildren.
Don Kelly, Truman Ferguson, John Autry, Louis Bustos, Jerry Owen and Gary Bannister are scheduled to serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Carlsbad Hospice or Carlsbad Foundation.
