Albert Scharf was born near Lehr, North Dakota. He was the son of George and Dorothea (Stickel) Scharf and received his elementary education in Lehr schools and grew up in the area.

He married Lydia Gruebele in 1936 in Lehr and they later made their home in Lodi, CA where he was employed at a peppermint farm. In 1940 they moved to Richmond, CA where he worked at Kaiser Fraiser Shipyard.

The couple moved to Wishek, North Dakota in 1945 and began farming. His wife died in 1967.

Albert married Pauline Krein on September 30, 1970. They continued to live in Wishek until 1992 when they moved to Bismarck, North Dakota. Pauline died in July of 1994 and in August of that year he entered the Baptist Nursing Home in Bismarck.

He was very involved with the United Methodist Church in Wishek and was its financial secretary.

At the time of his death he was survived by a number of step-children, nephews and nieces and one sister, Margaret Wachs of Fond Du Lac, WI.
