Services for Frederick Sayler Jr., 87, Wishek were held Dec. 14 at the United Church of Christ in Wishek. He died Dec. 11 at the Wishek Community Hospital.

The Reverends William C. Moser of Wishek, George Rueb of Ashley and Duane Aipperspach of Edina, MN officiated at the service. Burial was in the Wishek City Cemetery under the direction of Nickisch Funeral Home of Wishek. Pallbearers were Robert R. Aipperspach, John Sayler, William F. Huber, Larry E. Sayler, Rolland F. Sayler Jr., and Frederick D. Hilsendeger. Honorary pallbearers were William A. McKeever, Vance Brandt, Ross Brandt, Dean Campbell, John McKeever, Tim Sayler, Keith Sayler, Mark Sayler and Nathan Sayler.

Sayler was born on a farm near Wishek on Nov. 9, 1897 to Frederick and Christina (Werner) Sayler Sr. On Dec. 14, 1920 he married Martha Ackerman at Napoleon. The couple farmed northwest of Wishek for 23 years until moving to Wishek in 1943. The Saylers and Henry and Fredericka Sayler owned and operated Sayler Brothers Hardware in Wishek from 1945 until 1965.

Sayler served on the Wishek City Council, and the Association of Commerce. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, and served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and as treasurer of the Church Board.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Edward W. and Rolland F., both of Wishek, and Dr. Larry H. of Valley City; seven daughters, Mrs. Ruben (Leona) Aipperspach, Mrs. William E. (Phyllis) Huber and Mrs. Stanley (Ardella) Moeckel, all of Wishek, Mrs. Virgil (Eunice) Brandt of Folsom, CA, Mrs. Stanley (Violette) Campbell of Clifton Park, NY, Mrs. Thomas (Alice) McKeever of Anchorage, AK, and Mrs. Tom (Judith) Jackson of Winter Park, FL; 35 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry of Wishek, and three sisters, Mrs. Martha Ackerman and Mrs. Fred (Bertha) Rieger, both of Wishek, Mrs. Albert (Ida) Klein of Homeland, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
