Martha Ackerman, 86, Wishek, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1988, at her home in Wishek.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. in the United Church of Christ in Wishek with Rev. Herbert Zimmerman officiating.

Martha Ackerman was born Dec. 27, 1901, in Logan County to Fred and Christina (Werner) Sayler. She was born on the Sayler homestead northwest of Wishek where she also attended rural elementary school. She lived with her family, helping on the farm until her marriage to Edward Ackerman on Dec. 18, 1923, in Napoleon. After their marriage they resided on the Ackerman homestead for two years. They then built a new farmstead ½-mile from the Ackerman homestead. In 1957, they retired and moved into the city of Wishek. Mr. Ackerman died on Nov. 1, 1964.

Martha was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Martha Aid in Wishek. Her hobbies included gardening and crocheting.

Survivors include four sons, Elmer Ackerman of Garland, Texas, Harold Ackerman and Donald Ackerman, both of Dickinson, and Edward Ackerman of Wishek; a daughter Ida Quatier of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ida Klein of Sacramento, Calif., and Bertha Reiger of Wishek.

She was preceded in death by her son Oscar (died in infancy), a grandson, a great-grandson, seven brothers and six sisters.

Organist at the service was Georgine Sayler. Special music was provided by Rev. and Mrs. George Rueb. Pallbearers were Michael Ackerman, Alan Ackerman, Ronald Ackerman, Todd Quatier, Ron Gall and Paul Ackerman.

Burial was in the Wishek City Cemetery under the direction of Nickisch Funeral Home, Wishek.

SPIRIT of WISHECK, 1948, Jubilee Book —

After Martha and Edward married in 1923 they built a farm home near the family farm where Edward was born and raised, and spent all of their farming years on this place.

In 1957 they retired and moved into Wishek leaving the farming operation to their son Edward.

After a lingering illness Edward died on the 1 Nov 1964. He was well-known for being easygoing and very good-natured by all who knew him. Martha died on the 14 Dec 1988.
