John, the son of Nicholas and Marianna (Dreiling) Brown, was born south of Victoria. He served in the Army during World War II. After returning home, he became a farmer-stockman near Collyer. On June 3, 1946, he married the love of his life, Arleen Windholz, in Emmeram, Kansas.
In 1986, he moved to WaKeeney and became a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Previously, he had been a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Collyer. He had also served on the Rural Trego County Fire Department.
He was survived by his wife, son, three daughters, one brother, four sisters and eight grandchildren.
The funeral was held at Christ the King Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Scheetz officiating. Burial was in Christ the King Catholic Cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Randall Reid Post 3449 and American Legion Moore Post 197.
