Arthur "Buck" Stuart Poling Sr., 87, of Grafton, passed at his residence on Thursday, November 8, 2012, surrounded by his family.

He was born October 27, 1925, in Grafton, son of the late Isaac and Hallie (Blake) Poling. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria (Gerkin) Poling in January 1973. He then married Faye (Younkin) Poling on October 9, 1976, and they have been married thirty-six years.

Mr. Poling was a WW II veteran having served with the 4th Marines, Company A, 25th Division. He was a 50-caliber machine gun operator on the landing craft at the battle of Iwo Jima. He was a Purple Heart recipient, and received a Sharp Shooter Medal. He retired from Union Carbide with 23 years service.

He served on the Memorial Day Committee, the Veteran's Day Committee, and was the Senior Commander of the DAV, and a life member of the VFW, American Legion, and AM Vets. He was an avid gun enthusiast and collector, and a member of the National Rifle Association, and recently received the Distinguished Mountaineer Award from Gov. Tomblin. He attended the God's word of Life Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by: his children, Adonis "Donie" Edens and husband John, of Philippi, Arthur S. Poling Jr., Ennon, OH, Leo Poling and wife Rona, Grafton, Edward Lee Poling and wife Connie, Grafton, Bonnie Sue Sanner, Grafton, Vickie Heaster and husband Luther, Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Adrea, Betty Jo, Charlie, Nichole, Amber, Angie, Eddie Lee Jr., Christopher and Nick; one great grandson, Colby; one brother, John L Poling, Grafton; one sister, Elaine Mauller, Grafton.

In addition to his parents and first wife he is preceded in death by: two sons, Gerry Dean Poling and Barry Alan Poling; two grandsons, John Edens, and Allen Edens; one brother, Issac Poling; and four sisters, Nancy Sapp, Martha Slaton, Callie Jane Austin, and Barbara Alexander.

Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Sunday from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., and Monday from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2012, at the funeral home with Pastor George Freeman officiating. Interment at Bluemont Cemetery.

Military graveside services will be accorded by the VFW Memorial City Post #3081, American Legion Taylor County Post #12, Central WV DAV Chapter 24, and their auxiliaries, and the WV Army National Honor Guard of Camp Dawson.
