In the spring 1912, Fred Kuemmerle and sons, Fred, Herbert, and Glenn came to Wyoming bringing livestock and other possessions by railroad immigrant cars. A raging blizzard in Upton forced them to stay there for three days until they could head towards their homestead that another son Carl and daughter Ida had taken. Mrs. Kuemmerle and another son, Robert (Chubb), came later by passenger train. Another brother Edward joined the family later, and all of the brothers had homesteads in Weston County. Mr. and Mrs. Kuemmerle lived on their ranch until their deaths in 1935 and 1947.
On September 4, 1923 he married a neighbor girl named Mary M. Edgmon in Newcastle Wyoming. Mary and Herbert lived on their homestead for a year and then rented the Hunt place about 3 miles east. They lived there until 1965 when they moved to Newcastle due to Herberts failing health. They had three daughters Claire (Mrs. Virgil Finn), Patricia, and Gladys (Mrs. Don Pridgeon. They had one son Carl.
