Clara met and married Fred Kuemmerly in a german immigrant community near Rock Springs Illinois. They moved to South Dakota and homesteaded with their family.

In the spring 1912, Fred Kuemmerle and sons, Fred, Herbert, and Glenn came to Wyoming bringing livestock and other possessions by railroad immigrant cars. A raging blizzard in Upton forced them to stay there for three days until they could head towards their homestead that another son Carl and daughter Ida had taken. Mrs. Kuemmerle and another son, Robert (Chubb), came later by passenger train. Another brother Edward joined the family later, and all of the brothers had homesteads in Weston County. Mr. and Mrs. Kuemmerle lived on their ranch until their deaths in 1935 and 1947.
Fred, Carl, and Glenn never married. Carl was killed in World War I. Fred and Glenn ranched in partnership for many years. Fred passed away in 1962 and Glenn in 1982.
