She was the wife of Francis J. Prosser, who died in 1982.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Bonifacio and Baradina (Comito) Cancelmo, and had lived in Milford for many years.
She was educated in the Southbridge schools. She was employed as a floor lady for many years at the former Milford Shoe Company. Mrs. Prosser was fond of her pets, from Skipper the dog, to many Callies the cats, one of which survived her.
She became fiercely independent, when she lost her mother at age 9, and her father returned to Italy to remarry. To attest to her strength she pulled people from a second floor apartment of a burning building to safety in 1953, one of whom was her father. She took the time to spend with friends and family, many who would stop by for a remarkable meal. After her husband's death she became involved at the Milford Senior Center, taking care of the plants and crafts. Her blunt manner made for a lot of laughs. Her generosity was beyond what people would have imagined of her.
She is survived by a great-nephew, Joey Cancelmo of Worcester; one sister, Palmina Gianetti of Worcester; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Joseph P. Cancelmo; three sisters, Angela Cancelmo, Lucy Mancini, Mary DiStrattis; and two step-sisters, Veradina DiCarlo and Gilda Cancelmo.
A graveside service will be held Monday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Medway Road, Milford.
There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., Milford. Please visit us at www.consigliruggeriofuneralhome.com.
