Washington Co., Vermont, Probate Court, Montpelier, Vol. 3, page 479-480:
I, Lewis Chatfield of Roxbury in the county of Washington and state of Vermont being sensible of my liableness to sudden death at the same time being in my own apprehension of sound mind do adjudge it best to make my will and accordingly make this my last will and testament

I. It is my will that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid out of my debts.
II. I give devise and dispose of all my estate both real and personal save what shall be necessary for the payment of my debts and funeral charges in the following manner viz:
III. I give my sons Alonzo, Lorenzo, Orin & Benjamin Chatfield five dollars each having given them each five hundred dollars heretofore.
IV. I give my daughter Susan Kimball five dollars. I have heretofore given her five hundred dollars.
V. I give to my daughter Nancy Morgan & her heirs four hundred and twenty dollars.
VI. I give to my daughter Caroline Royce the sum of four hundred and seventy dollars.
VII. I give to my daughter Chloe Harper five dollars having heretofore given her five hundred dollars.
VIII. I give to my daughter Betsey Chatfield the sum of five hundred dollars.
IX. I give to my son Lewis Chatfield the balance of all my estate both real and personal after the payment of my debts funeral charges and the legacies above specified and after the erection of suitable grave stones to my grave that of his mother and Horace Chatfield deceased and my sister Eunice Chatfield all of which it is my will that should be done out of my estate. I also reserve and give what may be collected out of the Wm. Allen note about forth dollars in amount to my four daughters in equal sums each.

I hereby nominate constitute and appoint Edmund Pope & Joseph Gold of Northfield jointly and severably to be my executors of this my last will and testament and so as in the case of the death of one of them the survivor of them shall be sole executor of this my last will.

In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal and publish and declare this to be my last will and testament this 2nd day of June A.D. 1873
