Sue Land, 82, of Athens, died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at Life Care Center of Athens.

A native of Meigs County, and a resident of McMinn County for most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Sam Houston and Margaret Lee Walker Davis. She was a member of North Athens Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Land Jr., on March 29, 1979; two brothers, Herman Davis and Sam Houston Davis Jr.; and one sister, Tula Davis Scroggins.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James "Jim" and Joan Land of Charleston; one daughter, Janice Land Turner of Athens; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Coreen Davis of Athens, and Gladys Davis of Decatur; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ina Lockmiller and Veda and Fred Miller, all of Decatur, and Mildred and Jimmie Ray of Athens; four grandsons and three spouses, Tracy and Stephanie Elliott and Wade and Valerie Elliott, all of Athens, Nathan and Brandy Land of Charleston, and Brett Turner of Athens; five great-granddaughters, Ashley and Melissa Ulrich and Megan, Emily and Sarah Elliott; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Parton and the Rev. Barry Purser officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Tracy Elliott, Wade Elliott, Nathan Land and Brett Turner.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
