Ruth Thomas Waters, 91, died Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah from injuries received in an automobile accident.

She was a native of Brantley County but had lived most of her life in Waycross. She had been a hairdresser for forty eight years and was the former owner and operator of Ruth's Beauty Box, and was a former member of the Waycross Hairdresser's Association. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Mary Martha Sunday School Class.

She was the daughter of the late John Calvin Thomas, Sr, and Beatrice Lucas Thomas. She was also preceded in death by a step-son, Jerry Waters, two sisters, Agnes Dixon and Elvera Booth, and two brothers, Roy Thomas and Troy Thomas.

Survivors include her husband of fifty eight years, George W. Waters, Jr. of Waycross; a son, Robert Stanley "Stan" Counce (wife Judy) of Waycross; a daughter, Karen Pamela Waters of Waycross; two granddaughters, Brandi Michelle O'Neal (husband Brian) of Hoboken and Amber Noelle Norby of St Helena Island, SC; six great grandchildren, Tyler Norby, Bryson McIntosh, Spencer O'Neal, Benji O'Neal, Taylor O'Neal, and Ayden Lassiter; a daughter-in-law, Faye Waters of Waycross; two step-grandsons, Tyrone Waters (wife Joy) and Terrence Waters (wife Cristal) both of Waycross; two brothers, Clyde Thomas (wife Jackie) and John Calvin Thomas, Jr. both of Waycross; sister-in-laws, Annelle Waters and Mary Thomas of Waycross; a brother-in-law, Brad Waters of Blackshear, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday (November 20, 2010) at Central Baptist Church. Burial will be in Waters Cemetery in Pierce County. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday at Music Funeral Home.
