89, of 1291 W. Main St. Galesburg, IL, died at 1:30 PM Saturday, August 13, 2005 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
He was born September 12, 1915 in Quincy, IL to Frederick and Clara Schultz Greene. He married Dorothy Linder in Coldbrook, IL on September 15, 1936. She preceded him in death on June 2, 1989.
He is survived by a son, Robert Greene of Galesburg, IL; two daughters, Joann (and Walter) Dagen of Galesburg, IL and Judy (and Ora) Logsdon of Abingdon, IL; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a grandchild and seven sisters.
He farmed for over 30 years in the Galesburg and Cameron areas. He also worked as a welder for Butler Manufacturing and a mechanic for Community Unit School District #205 and Westbay Equipment. During World War II, he worked in the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA.
He was a 1934 graduate of Galesburg High School. He was a member of AFSCME. He served in the 123rd Field Artillery Battalion of National Guard. He was an avid woodworker and bowler. He enjoyed his weekend home in Keithsburg, IL overlooking the Mississippi River where he fed and watched various birds.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.
