THE HENRY BULLETIN, Martinsville, Va., Tue., Nov. 15, 1932, p.1, col. 8 [edited]. Richard B. Semple, 62, life long citizen of Henry County and for many years actively identified with the tobacco manufacturing interest of this city, passed away Sunday evening at Staunton, following several years decline in health. Mr. Semple retired several years ago from active duty, on account of poor health, and his condition having grown serious during the past weeks, his death was not unexpected. The remains will be brought to Martinsville today where a brief funeral service will be held at the grave in Oakwood Cemetery this afternoon. Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Mary Lavinder Semple, are three sisters, Mrs. D. F. Dunlop and Miss Sue Semple of Charlotte Courthouse, Va., and Miss Anne Semple of Baltimore, and one brother, James T. Semple of Texas. Mr. Semple, who was born and spent the early part of his life in the Irisburg community, was the son of the late Dr. James M. Semple, a leading physician of Henry County during his lifetime. He attended the public schools of the county and at Ruffner Institute here. Completing his local school work, he became identified with the tobacco interests of this section which was the leading industry of Martinsville at that time.
