In December 1924, she married William Meek McElwee, Jr. They became the parents of 10 children including Mary Beth (1925), Martha Myrtle (1926), Bettie Jean (1928), Wanda Lou (1929), Nell (1930), Scott David (1932), Maxine (1933), Wallace Malcomb (1935), Catherine Sue (1938) and Hazel Jeanene (1940) McElwee. On December 29, 1969, her husband, William, died in Blair, Oklahoma.
On November 18, 1990 , Jewell L (Hunter) McElwee died at Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma, and was buried in Blair Cemetery in Jackson County, Oklahoma.
