Nancy Lee Pierce Kuhn Jr. Phipps, DOB 1/29/26Oliver Wall (Doc) Kuhn Sr., 70, of 490 Bosphorus Ave., prominent civic leader and longtime resident of Tampa, died yesterday in a Tampa hospital. A native of Nashville, Tenn., he had been a resident of Tampa for 46 years. Mr. Kuhn was a retired investment banker and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, University Club, and a charter member of the Merrymakers Club, Sword and Shield Club, Tampa Quarterback Club, and former president of the State and Tampa Exchange Club. Mr. Kuhn attended Notre Dame University, and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1923, where he was an all-around athlete, captain of the football and basketball teams, and received All American honorable mention in football. He was a past president of the Tampa Junior Chamber of Commerce, and at that time was instrumental in starting the beautification of Bayshore Boulevard. A tree was planted on Bayshore in his honor. He aided in starting the athletic program at the University of Tampa and as a member of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce beautification committee, he was instrumental in getting podocarpus trees planted in the sidewalks of downtown Tampa. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nancy P. Kuhn, and two sons, Robert W. Kuhn and Oliver W. Kuhn Jr., all of Tampa; a daughter, Mrs. Harry W. Phipps, Orlando; two sisters, Miss Barbara Miller Kuhn and Miss Marie Clarke Kuhn, Nashville, Tenn.; and three brothers, Richard Dudley Kuhn, Nashville; Ferdinand Emery Kuhn, Sun City, Calif., and Paul Hubert Kuhn, Memphis.
