WILLIAM E. PARSONS
Born in Kentucky, December 29, 1829. When but a child, his parents moved to Louisiana, where they resided four years. They then moved into Missouri, where William received his education, and resided until 1850. He then crossed the plains to California, arriving at Placerville in August. He commenced operations as a miner at once, which he continued in different places until 1858, when he came to Mendocino county and settled in McDonald valley on his present place consisting of four hundred and forty acres, where he has since been engaged in farming and stock-raising.

W. E. Parsons, a pioneer of this county and owner at one time of a large ranch near Largo, was killed in Santa Rosa Saturday. The particulars as given by the Press Democrat are as follows:
William Edward Parsons, the aged uncle of City Engineer J. C. Parsons, was run over by an automobile driven by Robert Hodge at the corner of Fourth and A streets, shortly after three o’clock Saturday afternoon and died from the effects of the injuries he sustained a short time afterwards in the Mary Jesse Hospital, where he was hurried immediately after the accident. His right side was crushed in by the wheel of the heavy machine. From the statements of bystanders it was learned that the old gentleman apparently either did not see the approach of the machine, said to have been driven at a low rate of speed, or else got confused and stepped in front of the machine. Mr. Hodge picked up the injured man and hurried him to the hospital where Dr. J. W. Jesse gave him immediate attention but it was seen that human agency, owing to the nature of the injuries, could not avail. Father M. J Kasper was called and administered the rite of the church.
Mr. Parsons was eighty-five years old. He came West in 1850 and was engaged in mining with success until 1858, when he came to Mendocino county and purchased a stock ranch near Hopland which he ran until about three years ago, when he sold out. After traveling about for a year or so he went to Santa Rosa and with his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Buckman, eighty-two years of age, he had been residing there. A grandson (of his sister), Clair Buckman, also lived with him. The deceased was a bachelor.

The funeral of the late William D. Parsons was held here Tuesday on the arrival of the noon train, the remains having been brought from Santa Rosa by sorrowing relatives for interment in the only spot on earth which was home for him. It was through a most regrettable accident that occurred in Santa Rosa Saturday afternoon that Mr. Parsons lost his life, being struck by an automobile while crossing a street.
According to the historical records of Sanel Valley, William E. Parsons settled here in the year 1858 and by his indomitable courage, his perseverance and splendid character achieved that success in life which provided for him a comfortable close to a most creditable career.
Up to about four years ago, Mr. Parsons lived on and was active in the management of a splendid ranch in McDowell Valley which had been his home for many years. Four years ago he sold his property here and moved to Santa Rosa where he lived with his sister Mrs. Buckman to spend quietly together the declining years of their lives. Mr. Parsons was about eighty-six year of age, leaves no immediate family, other than the
