James married Mary Elizabeth Pierceall on 26 Feb 1843 in Indian Creek, Monroe, Missouri. He served with his brothers, Joseph and Robert, in the Confederate army during the Civil War in the 1st Northeast Regiment, Missouri Cavalry.

J. C. Parsons, an old and highly respected resident of Nevada, died this morning at his home, 1007 East Wooters Street. The deceased was 87 years of age and his death was due to the infirmities that come to those of such an advanced age. The funeral services will be held at the Catholic Church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The remains will be laid to rest in Click's graveyard. The deceased leaves six children and many friends, who are grieved by his death.
