Henry E. was the fourth of ten known children of Michael Rominger (1780 - 1824) and Christina Ebert Rominger (1782 - 1844), who married 23 Oct 1804 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolian. Michael and Christina spent their lives in Surry (became Stokes and then Forsyth) County, North Carolina; living in the vicinity of Friedberg, a Moravian community on the border of Stokes and Rowan (now Forsyth and Davidson) Counties, North Carolina.

Henry moved to Indiana in 1834. Henry married Anna Katherine Miller (1819-1899) on 01 Jun 1839 at Bartholomew County, Indiana. The family lived at Bartholomew County, Indiana until 1863 when they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana for three years and then to Davis County, Iowa in 1866, where some ealier Rominger families had moved. Henry was a carpenter and a farmer. His wife Anna was the daughter of a Methodist Minister and Henry joined the Methodist Church.
Henry and Anna were the parents of five known children, namely:

1. Charlotte Caroline Rominger Cowden (1840-1935)
2. Williamson Augustus Rominger (1841-1925)
3. Abigail Jane Rominger Yates Breeding (1845-1908)
4. Mary E. Rominger (???-young)
5. Emma F. Rominger (1861-1908)
