William David "Pa" Dye, 78, of 629 Prater Drive, Richlands, died in a Richlands hospital early April 26 following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Richlands and was a son of the late William M. and Edna McGlothlin Dye, both Tazewell County natives.
He had been a lifelong resident of the Richlands area and was a retired coal miner for the Red Jacket Coal Company at Keen Mountain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Chapman Dye; two sons, Douglas McArthur and Leslie Dye, also by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors are: three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Delma) Monk and Mrs. Bob (Evelyn) Reynolds, both of Richlands and Mrs. Alfred (Carol) Raschella of Pikeville, KY; eight sons, Doris L. Dye of San Antonio, TX, Donald E. Dye of Salem, Joe B. Dye of Princeton, WV, Ralph W. Dye, Glen Roger Dye, Carl H. (Cork) Dye, Kenneth R. Dye and Larry W. Dye, all of Richlands; one brother, Clarence Dye of Weber City; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grand children.
Funeral services were conducted April 29 at 11 am at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Stan Morris and Rev. Jerry Casey officiating. Interment followed in the Hankins Cemetery in Richlands.
The following grandsons served as pallbearers: Woody Monk, Keith Reynolds, Nickey Raschella, David Dye, Doug Dye, Joseph B. Dye, Jr., Tony Dye and Steve Dye.
The following grandsons served as honorary pallbearers: Terry Monk, Mike Monk, Jeffrey Reynolds, Loran Dale Raschella, Mark Dye, Chris Dye, Timmy Dye, Kelly Dye, and Kevin Dye.
