Funeral Services For Effie Tonemah Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Satepauhoodle Tonemah of Carnegie, were held last Wednesday from the Cedar Creek church, with Rev. Conrad Mausape officiating, assisted by Rev. Sherwood Tsatigh and Rev. Walden Ware.
Mrs. Tonemah died May 28 at the Kiowa Indian hospital at Lawton. She was 61 years of age.
She was born October 28, 1895, near Fort Sill. She attended school at the Rainy Mountain school near Gotebo, where she was graduated and was employed for several years as an assistant seamstress.
She was married to Jimmie Chanate, who preceded her in death. She later was married to Quay Tonemah.
Survivors include two sons, Ernest Chanate, Fort Sill, and Orin John Tonemah, Milpitas, Calif.; two brothers, Sam Satepauhoodle and Adrian Satepauhoodle; five sisters, Mrs. Celia Dupont, Mrs. Mary Haumpy, Mrs. Elsie Ahgoom, Mrs. Henrietta Koomsa and Mrs. Ivy Ware, all of Carnegie.
She had been a member of the Cedar Creek Indian church since January 13, 1933, and was a member of the American War Mothers organization, serving as president, for two years and later as chaplain.
Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Marland Koomsa, Santa Fe; Dorothy Ware, Window Rock, Ariz.; Gertie Faye Haumpy, Fort Worth; Mr. and Mrs. James Ahgoom, Oklahoma City, Adrian Satepauhoodle, Fort Worth; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Procter, Stillwell; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Aitson, Levy, Ariz., and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tonemah, Lawton.
