Mrs. Whetsell died Saturday in Liberty Village. She was born in Muncie and graduated from Central High Schools. She attended St. Anthony DePadua and DePaul University. She received her bachelor's degree from St. John's University and master's from Indiana University at Fort Wayne. She retired in 1973 from Ball Memorial Hospital, where she taught in the School of Practical Nursing. She formerly worked at New Castle State Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, Prospect Hospital in New York and St. Vincent's Orphanage in Chicago. She was also a missionary nurse in New Mexico. She was a member of Fountain Square United Methodist Church and World Prayer Key Family.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol E. Reynolds; a son, Dewey Gene Whetsell (wife-Louise); a brother, Dewey Miller; a sister, Ruth Franks; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Robert Carl Whetsell, died in 1979. A brother is also deceased.
