****IN LOVING MEMORY****

Dorothy Goodsell, 85, of Knoxville, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be held on Friday October 15, beginning after noon with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday October 16 also at Williams Funeral Home with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on July 12, 1925 in Marysville, IA to Walter and Elsie Eileen (Barnhill) Pettyjohn. She grew up in the Marysville area and attended school there. In 1945, she married Lloyd Louis Van Gilder in Albia, IA. To this union 2 daughters were born Janyce and Catherine. He passed away in July of 1956. Dorothy then married John Wesley Goodsell on December 6, 1958 in Knoxville. To this union their daughter Melody was born. Dorothy and John made their home in Knoxville where she was a homemaker and mother to their three girls.

Dorothy and John enjoyed traveling the Midwest and especially to Branson, MO and also to Arkansas where John's family lived. She loved talking to family and friends and telling them stories. Dorothy loved collecting angels and she enjoyed working on puzzle books, watching Wheel of Fortune, going to the casinos and playing lottery tickets. Dorothy will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor.

Dorothy is survived by three children: Janyce Van Gilder of Pella, Catherine (Alan) Crook and Melody (Leroy) Ripperger both of Knoxville, four grandchildren, Becky (Rick) Shilling, Chris (Cleta) Crook, Josh Ripperger and Alicia Ripperger all of Knoxville, 13 great grandchildren, two sisters, Ramona Bennett of Harvey, IA, Verna Means of Milan, IL, two brothers Malcolm "Buddy" Pettyjohn of Oskaloosa, and Lowell "Crow" Pettyjohn of Knoxville, numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Lloyd Louis Van Gilder and John Wesley Goodsell, her parents, Walter and Elsie Pettyjohn, one great grandson, Dakota Alan Crook, four brothers, Delno Pettyjohn, Walter Thomas Pettyjohn, Harry Claude Pettyjohn and Elmer Pettyjohn, seven sisters, Mabel Smith, Eva Romer, Virgie Pinegar, Juanita Wallace, Maxine McMurray, Beverly Conner and Annette Roberts.
