VAN GILDER
Funeral services are to be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m., at the L.D.S. church in Albia for Lewis Floyd Van Gilder, 30, of Moline, Ill., who died of drowning Tuesday after jumping into a branch of the Mississippi river near Davenport.
Van Gildner had been depressed for quite some time and while riding from Moline to Davenport, asked his wife to stop the car on a bridge. When she did so, he got out and jumped over the bridge rail.
The son of James F. Means and Mrs. Mae Bakalar, he was born August 20, 1925.
He had enlisted in the armed services in 1943 and received his discharge in November of 1955.
Surviving are his parents; his wife, the former Dorothy Pettyjohn of Marysville; two daughters, Janice and Catherine; five brothers and sisters and 14 half-brothers and sisters.
Elder Robert Zimmerman will be in charge of the services and burial will be in the Oak View cemetery at Albia.
