---HUGH HUNTER WAS FORMERLY A MENDON RESIDENT---

One of Camp Point's oldest and most respected citizens passed away on January 6th in the person of Hugh Hunter.

Mr. Hunter had been in failing health for several years but had been in his usual health when he was stricken with apoplexy early last Monday morning which resulted in his death on Wednesday. He was the son of Hugh and Jane Hunter and had four brothers and three sisters, one brother and two sisters survive, namely Joseph, Mrs. C.H. White and Elizabeth Hunter of Mendon. Besides the brothers and sisters, Mr. Hunter leaves his wife, three sons and three daughters and five grandchildren.

He was twice married. On March 20th, 1884, he was united in marriage with Margaret Ellen Turner of Mendon who passed away in September, 1885, leaving one son Alfred, now of Springfield. He was remarried to Miss Elgin Ralph of Ursa, on Dec. 30th, 1891, who with the children, survive. The children are Alfred of Springfield, Ralph and Frank at home, Mary of Elizabeth, N.J., Mrs. R.W. Vollbracht of Camp Point, and Lucy of Decatur.

Mr. Hunter was converted and joined the U.B. Church at York Neck during a revival meeting a number of years ago. He was a man of sterling character broad in his dealings with his fellow men, a model husband and father. He was born in Catasauqua, Pa., Nov. 18, 1852, being at the time of his death 73 years, 1 month and 19 days of age.

Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. Holmes and interment in Coatsburg Cemetery in Friday afternoon. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Miss Mary Hunter of New Jersey, Miss Lucy Hunter of Decatur, Mr. and Mrs. Richard White, Mrs. C.H. White, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Shrader, Miss Elizabeth Hunter, Elmer Stansburg, all of Mendon, Alfred Hunter and family of Springfield, William Hunter of Burnside, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hunter of Coatsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shrader, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Witt, William Ralph, Charles Ralph, Thomas Ralph of Quincy, and Richard Beal of St. Elmo.
