Died, in Waldron, Shelby County, May 1st, 1880
Mrs. Abby Archey, at the age of sixty-five years, eleven months and twenty-nine days.
Deceased was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, May 3, 1814, and was married to Peter Archey, December 30, 1833.
She moved with her family to Indiana in 1866, and has resided at or near Waldron until death.
She united with the Presbyterian Church in her youth and remained connected with that church till about the year 1855, when she united with the M. E. Church, of which she remained a consistent member until her death.
She was the mother of nine children, eight sons and one daughter, all of whom, with her husband, are still living, and all were present except one.
In her christian life she was without ostentation and display, but relied firmly on Christ as the hope of her salvation.
During a long protracted illness, she was patient and resigned and although suffering intensely, did not murmur nor complain, but patiently awaited the time of her deliverance. When asked as to her prospects for the future, she spoke with full confidence of the presence of the Savior, and without fear entered the valley of the shadow of death.
Her funeral was preached at the Waldron M. E. Church, Sunday, May 2, at 2:30 p. m., by Rev. Gullet, after which her remains were buried in the Middletown Cemetery.
Mrs. Archey was the mother of R. H. Archey, of this county.
