A Good Mother Gone
The funeral services of Mrs. Harriet Bailey were held from her late home west Toledo Saturday afternoon. She was the seventh child in a family of nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Orren Brewster and was born in Dresden, New York, November 14, 1830. Her parents were farmers, living at Hulett’s Landing near Lake George, where Harriet grew to womanhood and on May 9, 1847, she was married to Alonzo Hulett. To this union were born two children, Orville Adelbert, who lives in Toledo, and Mrs. Nelson Jerome Miller, of Hudson Falls, New York who died December 18, 1890. From Lake George the Huletts moved in 1804 to Fort Ann, New York, where Mr. Hulett died. In 1891 Mrs. Hulett came west to be near her son, who had settled on a farm near Toledo, Iowa. In June 1895, she was married to Orville C. Bailey and moved to Delmar, Iowa, here she lived until her husband’s death in 1903. In 1905 she again returned to Toledo to make her home and was accompanied by her granddaughter, Miss Pearl Miller, of Hudson Falls, New York, who has since that time been the faithful caretaker of the home and of her grandmother. Mrs. Hulett was converted when thirty years of age and was united with the Free Will Baptist church, but since coming west has been a faithful and regular member of the Methodist church, which membership she continued to hold until the time of her death. Mrs. Bailey was a kind mother, having taken her three grandchildren at the death of her daughter and given them a mother’s care. She was an upright, honest woman and was ever ready to help the needy. Besides the son she leaves to mourn her loss four grandchildren, Nelson Miller, of Hudson Falls, New York; Mrs. David Garret son, north of Toledo; Miss Pearl and Elwin Miller, who were present at the time of her death; also, a sister, Mrs. Mary A. Benton, of Minneapolis who on account of ill health was unable to be present. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Alexander, of the Methodist church. The choir of the church furnished the music and Mrs. Carl Hamilton sang McDougal’s “Jesus Lover of M y Soul.” The services were concluded at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Howard township. Those present from out of town were Mrs. Howard Bailey, of Cedar Falls; Mrs. F. W. Willey of Ames; Lineas Harington, of Delmar.
